Mark colors
Use your source font’s glyph marks to limit a proof to a particular group of glyphs. For example, proof only the glyphs you marked green, or check those you haven’t marked yet. Hellbox reads the colors you assigned in your font editor; it does not assign a meaning to any color.
Supported sources
Marks are read from saved .ufo, .designspace, .glyphs, and .glyphspackage sources, including RoboFont mark colors and Glyphs color labels. A compiled OTF or TTF alone does not supply these source marks.
Save changes in your font editor so Hellbox can read them. With Live Reload on, saving updates the source and its mark colors together.
Select marks
- Add a supported source font and enable it in the section.
- Use generated text, or a Glyph Set in Every glyph or Set from source mode.
- When the source contains marks, its color swatches appear in the section controls. Click one or more to include those marks.
- Select the dashed, unmarked swatch to include glyphs without a mark. You can combine it with color selections.
Click a selected swatch again to deselect it. Clear all color selections and the unmarked selection to remove the filter. If the selection matches no usable glyphs, change or clear it; Hellbox does not invent missing outlines.
The swatch counts describe encoded glyphs in the source. A color used only on unencoded glyphs can therefore show zero even though it exists in the source.
Where filtering applies
- Generated text uses only drawn glyphs allowed by the filter. Its coverage caption distinguishes undrawn letters from letters excluded by filtering.
- Glyph Set filters the enumerated repertoire in Every glyph and Set from source modes.
- All drawn glyphs placeholders use the filtered drawn coverage when a mark-color filter is set on the section.
Ordinary typed text is not removed or recolored by a mark filter. Glyph Set’s Typed text mode is not filtered either. Mark colors select which glyphs to proof; they do not set the printed text color.
